Oxfam-UT is the University of Texas chapter of Oxfam America, a social justice group finding lasting solutions to hunger, poverty, and social injustice. Through consumer activism and legislative action such as the "Make Trade Fair" campaign and the "Make Austin Sweat(shop)free" ordinances, we are eradicating systemic poverty in Austin and abroad.
Our meetings are every Tuesday at 7 PM in Garrison 4.328. Come see what you can do to change the world around you for the better!
Check out our action teams, the activist side of Oxfam, by clicking on the "Take Action" link.
Oxfam is bringing Chie Abad, a former sweatshop worker at a GAP factory in Saipan to speak to UT about sweatshop labor -- its impetus, the reality of the conditions, and the implications for everyone.
Buy Fair Trade Artisan Crafts and help raise money for a forum about trade! Part of the profit for all purchases made between 5 and 9 will go toward funds to organize a forum titled "Fighting a Fair Trade Future: 2008, A Community Forum". The forum will be October 18th, but we need to raise money to help pay for some exceptional speakers and the space for the event. Show your support for fair trade by supporting the forum and buying fair trade artisan crafts!
